The comfort zone isn’t what you think…

People talk about “getting out of your comfort zone” like it means going bigger.
Louder.
Further than you want to go.

Crossing boundaries.

That’s not what it is.

The comfort zone is quieter than that.

It’s thinking about making what you love… but don’t.
It’s thinking about that making that color you just want to eat it’s so good, but never mix it.
It’s thinking about bold marks, but never making them.

It’s staying with the ordinary version because it feels safe.

Not because you can’t do it.
Because somewhere along the way you learned to second-guess it.

So you keep the work acceptable, safe, polite, pretty and fine.
And it starts to feel like it could belong to anyone.

I have learned that the hard way, and I kept thinking about it for years… Until I realized the comfort zone is not what people say it is…at all.

And this has changed everything for me… and I know this small difference will help you too.

Here’s the 2-minute studio note I recorded for you about the comfort zone.

One question: What is the thing you keep thinking about doing — and then don’t?

Leave one sentence. I read them.
